The biggest differences
- Amazon: No Prime membership is needed for channels in the US, so charges can keep going after Prime ends.
- Apple TV app: Channels are separate from Apple TV (formerly Apple TV+). Cancelling one doesn’t cancel the other.
- Roku: You cancel by turning off auto-renew in your Roku account. Exception: Disney+, Hulu and Sling bought through Roku are cancelled with those companies directly. Roku says purchases are final, with no partial refunds.
- YouTube Primetime Channels: Bought inside regular YouTube and listed under Paid memberships. Different from YouTube TV add-ons, and YouTube lets you request a refund from that page.
- YouTube TV: Add-ons usually need the YouTube TV plan, and cancelling the plan cancels its add-ons too.
- Sling: An Extra’s price depends on your base plan; removing one gives no refund but the next bill is lower.
- DIRECTV: Adding a service such as Netflix through DIRECTV doesn’t cancel one you already pay for elsewhere — you could pay twice.
- Fubo: Add-ons can only be changed in a web browser, not in the TV app. If Roku bills you, change it in Roku.
- Hulu: Add-ons still live in the Hulu app in 2026 while Disney combines Hulu into Disney+; check the Hulu account if one seems missing.
Amazon Prime Video Channels
Subscriptions to other streaming services that you start inside Prime Video and watch there. Each channel is its own monthly subscription.
- Who bills you: Amazon, to the payment method on your Amazon account (or Apple, if started inside the Prime Video app on an Apple device).
- Base plan needed: No. In the US, Amazon says channels can be added with or without a Prime membership.
- Free trials: Many channels offer a free trial, commonly 7 days; terms vary. Unless cancelled, the regular monthly price is typically charged.
- After you cancel: You keep access until the end of the paid period and are not charged again. Charges already made are not refunded automatically.
See everything you pay for
- On amazon.com: Account & Lists → Memberships & Subscriptions.
- In Prime Video: Account & Settings → Channels.
Cancel an add-on
- Go to Memberships & Subscriptions (or Prime Video → Channels).
- Choose Cancel Channel next to the one you want to stop, and confirm.
Watch out for
- Because Prime isn’t required, channel charges can continue even if Prime was cancelled or never held.
- Some seasons of a show can be included with Prime while others need a paid channel or purchase.
Examples offered: HBO Max, Apple TV, Peacock Premium Plus, FOX One, STARZ, Paramount+, MGM+, Crunchyroll, AMC+, BET+, ViX Premium, Wonder Project. Lineups change.

Apple TV app channels
Apple TV channels are subscriptions to other streaming services (like Paramount+ or STARZ) that you buy inside Apple's TV app and watch there without a separate app. Each channel is its own subscription, separate from Apple's own Apple TV (formerly Apple TV+) service.
- Who bills you: Apple, to the payment method on your Apple Account. Each channel shows up as its own subscription.
- Base plan needed: No Apple TV (formerly Apple TV+) subscription is needed. You need an Apple Account with a payment method.
- Free trials: Many channels offer a free trial you can start from the channel's page, but trial length and availability vary by channel and region. Trials renew into paid subscriptions unless cancelled; Apple says to cancel at least 24 hours before a trial ends.
- After you cancel: Apple's current help page does not spell out access after cancelling. Generally, a cancelled Apple subscription stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, but this was not confirmed on an official Apple page. Refunds go through Apple's own refund process, not the channel company.
See everything you pay for
- iPhone or iPad: open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions.
- Web: sign in at account.apple.com and open the Subscriptions section.
- Apple TV app on a TV or streaming device: open the sidebar, go to Settings > Profile, pick the profile tied to your Apple Account, then select Manage Subscriptions.
- Can't find it? Search your email for "receipt from Apple" to see which Apple Account was charged.
Cancel an add-on
- On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions (or use account.apple.com on the web).
- Tap the channel you want to stop.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
- If there is no Cancel button, or you see an expiration date in red, it is already cancelled.
Watch out for
- Channels are billed by Apple, so cancel them in your Apple Account, not on the streaming service's own website.
- Each channel is a separate subscription. Cancelling Apple TV (formerly Apple TV+) does not cancel your channels, and cancelling one channel does not cancel the others.
- A subscription bought by a family member or on another Apple Account must be cancelled from that account.
- If you pay for the Apple TV app through Google Play or Amazon, cancel through that company instead.
Examples offered: Paramount+, STARZ, MGM+, AMC+, BritBox, Acorn TV, Crunchyroll, Hallmark+, ViX Premium, CuriosityStream. Lineups change.

YouTube Primetime Channels
Primetime Channels are subscriptions to other streaming services (like HBO Max, Paramount+ or STARZ) that you buy and watch inside the regular YouTube app. YouTube says it offers more than 50 of them.
- Who bills you: YouTube (Google), to the payment method on your Google account. If you signed up in the YouTube Android app, billing runs through Google Play; if you signed up through Apple, Apple handles refund requests.
- Base plan needed: No YouTube TV plan and no YouTube Premium needed. You need a YouTube (Google) account.
- Free trials: YouTube says most channels offer new users a 7-day free trial, and some offer a discounted intro price. Both renew automatically at the standard monthly price unless cancelled.
- After you cancel: You keep access until the end of your billing period. YouTube lets you request a refund from your paid memberships page; card refunds usually show up in a few business days. NFL Sunday Ticket cannot be cancelled or refunded.
See everything you pay for
- On youtube.com or in the app, tap your profile picture and open Paid memberships (also in Settings).
- Or open Movies & TV and select the Purchased tab; active Primetime Channels appear at the top.
- Your renewal date and price are shown in Settings.
Cancel an add-on
- Tap your profile picture, then go to Paid memberships.
- Find the channel and tap Deactivate (or Cancel).
- Tap Continue, choose a reason, then tap Yes, cancel.
Watch out for
- These are billed through YouTube, so cancel in YouTube's Paid memberships, not on the streaming service's own website.
- YouTube Premium perks (no ads, background play, downloads) do not carry over to Primetime Channels; the channel decides whether ads run.
- Primetime Channels are different from YouTube TV add-ons, which require a YouTube TV base plan.
- Some programs need location sharing turned on or have location-based limits.
Examples offered: HBO Max, Paramount+, STARZ, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Fox One, NFL Sunday Ticket. Lineups change.

YouTube TV add-ons and premium networks
Extra networks and bundles (like premium movie channels, sports packs and language packs) that YouTube TV members can add on top of their YouTube TV plan. YouTube TV also offers some networks on their own, without the full plan.
- Who bills you: YouTube TV (Google). The add-on is billed monthly together with your YouTube TV membership; adding one mid-month brings a prorated charge up to your next billing date.
- Base plan needed: Usually yes. Add-ons are for members with an active YouTube TV membership, and networks marked "Requires YouTube TV" need the full plan. Some networks can be bought on their own without the plan (not on iPhone/iPad).
- Free trials: Many add-ons have a free trial for new users when one is available. Add-on trials have their own sign-up and billing. YouTube TV trials switch to paid automatically when they end.
- After you cancel: You keep the add-on until the end of your current payment period, then lose access. YouTube TV says it does not give refunds or credits for partial billing periods.
See everything you pay for
- Open YouTube TV on a computer, phone or tablet (or go to tv.youtube.com).
- Select your profile photo, then Settings.
- Select Membership. Your plan and every add-on network you pay for are listed there.
Cancel an add-on
- Go to your profile photo, then Settings, then Membership.
- Find the add-on network you want to drop and select CANCEL next to it.
- Select Confirm.
Watch out for
- Cancelling your main YouTube TV plan also cancels the add-on networks you bought with it.
- Cancelling the main plan also removes promotions tied to your membership, including add-on promo pricing.
- Paramount+ with SHOWTIME bought through YouTube TV can no longer be watched by signing in with YouTube TV on Paramount's own website or app.
- If you signed up through a mobile carrier or internet provider, YouTube says it cannot give a refund and that provider's rules apply.
Examples offered: HBO Max, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, STARZ, Cinemax, MGM+, AMC+, ALLBLK, Shudder, Entertainment Plus, NFL RedZone with Sports Plus, Spanish Plus, 4K Plus. Lineups change.

Sling TV extras and premium add-ons
Sling sells "Extras" (themed channel packs like Sports Extra or Kids Extra) and premium add-ons (services like HBO Max, STARZ or MGM+) that you add to your Sling base plan.
- Who bills you: Sling, on your Sling account, when you signed up at sling.com. If you signed up in an app store with Apple, billing is handled by Apple, not Sling.
- Base plan needed: Yes for Extras. Sling says the price and channels in each Extra depend on your base plan (Orange, Blue, Select, Essentials or a combo).
- Free trials: Not verified. Sling's add-on pages checked do not describe free trials for Extras or premium add-ons.
- After you cancel: You keep the add-on until the end of your billing cycle, and your next bill shows the lower price. Sling says removing an add-on does not earn a refund.
See everything you pay for
- Sign in to your account at sling.com.
- Open the Your plan tab to see your base plan plus every Extra and premium add-on on your account.
Cancel an add-on
- Sign in to your Sling account and open the Your plan tab.
- Find the Extra or add-on and select Remove.
- Select Confirm.
Watch out for
- Adding an Extra or add-on charges a prorated amount right away, then the full price starts on your next payment date.
- The same Extra can cost a different amount depending on which base plan you have.
- If you subscribed through Apple's App Store, Sling does not manage that billing, so changes go through Apple.
Examples offered: Sports Extra, Kids Extra, Hollywood Extra, News Extra, HBO Max, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, STARZ, MGM+, AMC+, Cinemax, discovery+, Hallmark+. Lineups change.

DIRECTV (streaming) premium networks and add-ons
Premium channel bundles (like HBO Max, Cinemax, STARZ or Paramount+ with SHOWTIME) and streaming services (like Netflix or Peacock Premium) that you add to your DIRECTV TV package and pay for on your DIRECTV bill.
- Who bills you: DIRECTV, on your DIRECTV bill. Add-on charges renew monthly and are paid in advance.
- Base plan needed: They are added to a DIRECTV TV package (a Signature Package or a Genre Pack); DIRECTV notes some add-ons are not available with Genre Packs. Its help pages do not state the rule in one place.
- Free trials: Varies by offer. In a DIRECTV new-customer offer, five premium services are free for 3 months on qualifying packages and then renew at the regular rate unless you cancel. Some add-ons can't be added until a DIRECTV free trial ends.
- After you cancel: For Peacock Premium, DIRECTV says you keep access through the end of your bill cycle. DIRECTV's help pages checked do not state this for every add-on, and no refund rule was found.
See everything you pay for
- Sign in at directv.com.
- On the Account Overview page, select My TV package.
- Scroll through the add-ons section to see which premium channels and streaming services are on your account.
Cancel an add-on
- Sign in at directv.com and go to My TV package.
- Scroll to the premium channel or streaming add-on you want to drop.
- Select Remove and follow the prompts.
Watch out for
- A streaming service you add through DIRECTV does not replace one you already pay for elsewhere. Cancel the old one yourself to avoid paying twice.
- Streaming add-ons usually must be activated with the provider; DIRECTV emails the details, and HBO Max is watched in the HBO Max app.
- Some add-ons are not offered if you pay for DIRECTV through Amazon, Roku or Google.
- Free premium periods in promotions renew automatically at the then-current price unless you cancel.
Examples offered: HBO Max, Cinemax, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, STARZ, MGM+, MOVIES Extra Pack + Peacock Premium, Peacock Premium, Netflix, AMC+, discovery+, Hallmark+, Fox Nation. Lineups change.

Fubo add-ons
Extra channel packs and premium networks (like Sports Plus with NFL RedZone, STARZ or MGM+) that you add to a Fubo base plan. Fubo also sells some premium services on their own through its Channel Store.
- Who bills you: Fubo, on your Fubo account. If you signed up through Roku, Roku bills you and you make changes through Roku.
- Base plan needed: Add-ons are charged on top of a Fubo base plan. Some premium services (such as MGM+, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, STARZ and Hallmark+) are also sold as standalone plans with no base plan needed.
- Free trials: Not verified for add-ons. Fubo says cancelling a free trial of its service ends access right away.
- After you cancel: The removal takes effect at the start of your next bill cycle. You keep the add-on until then and are not charged for it again.
See everything you pay for
- Sign in at fubo.tv in a web browser (not the TV app) and pick a profile.
- Select the settings icon, then My Account.
- Look at My Add-Ons. To check whether Roku bills you, visit fubo.tv/subscription; it shows "Roku Subscription" if so.
Cancel an add-on
- Sign in at fubo.tv in a web browser and pick a profile.
- Select the settings icon, then My Account.
- Next to My Add-Ons, select Manage Add-Ons, then select the checkmark next to the add-on to remove it.
- Select Check Out, review the change, then select Update Subscription.
Watch out for
- Add-ons can only be changed in a web browser, not in the Fubo TV app.
- If you don't see Manage Add-Ons in My Account, your account is likely billed through Roku, so make changes in your Roku account.
- When you switch base plans, any add-on already included in the new plan is removed automatically.
- Adding an add-on mid-cycle brings a prorated charge right away, then the full price on later bills.
Examples offered: Sports Plus with NFL RedZone, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, STARZ, MGM+, Fubo Extra, News Plus, Latino Plus, International Sports Plus, MLB.TV, FOX Nation, Hallmark+, Adventure Plus. Lineups change.

Hulu premium add-ons
Premium networks (HBO Max, Cinemax, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and STARZ) that you can add to a Hulu plan and pay for through Hulu. As of mid-2026, Disney says the Hulu app is still running and add-ons stay in the Hulu app for now, though they are expected to move into Disney+ later.
- Who bills you: Hulu, which bills you for your Hulu plan and the add-on together.
- Base plan needed: Yes. Hulu says a Hulu base plan is required. The HBO Max add-on is not offered on every plan (for example, not on the Disney+ and Hulu "Duo" bundle as of late 2025).
- Free trials: Hulu lists a 7-day free trial for STARZ and for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME for new (or eligible returning) add-on subscribers. The add-on renews automatically at the monthly price after the trial unless you cancel.
- After you cancel: Not verified. Hulu's add-on help page could not be read, so when access ends and any refund rule were not confirmed.
See everything you pay for
- Sign in to Hulu on a computer or phone browser and open your Account page.
- Look at your plan details and the Manage Add-ons section to see which premium add-ons you pay for.
Cancel an add-on
- Go to your Hulu Account page.
- Select Manage Add-ons.
- Remove the premium add-on you no longer want and confirm the change.
Watch out for
- Disney is combining Hulu into the Disney+ app. As of May 2026, Disney said it had no current plan to shut down the Hulu app, and add-ons can't yet sync to Disney+ profiles, so check the Hulu app if an add-on seems missing.
- The HBO Max add-on is watched in the HBO Max app by choosing "Sign in with a provider" and picking Hulu.
- Some Paramount+ content is only in the Paramount+ app, which needs you to link your Hulu account.
- If Hulu is billed by another company (such as Apple, T-Mobile or Xfinity), steps can differ; check that company's account as well.
Examples offered: HBO Max, Cinemax, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, STARZ. Lineups change.

Find duplicates and forgotten add-ons
- Open each platform’s list above that you or your family use.
- Run your bank and card statements through the statement scanner to catch charges billed under Amazon, Apple, Google, Roku or another name.
- Look for the same channel in two places, and cancel the one you don’t need.
- Add the ones you keep to the subscription tracker so renewals don’t surprise you.
Common questions
Why can’t I find a channel subscription in the channel’s own account?
Because you’re billed by the platform you signed up through — Amazon, Apple, Roku, YouTube, Sling, DIRECTV, Fubo or Hulu. The channel’s own website usually can’t see or cancel it. Cancel it where it’s billed.
Can I be paying for the same channel twice?
Yes. You could have a service through one platform and again through another, or directly from the company. Check each platform’s subscription list, compare with your bank and card statements, and cancel duplicates.
Do I get a refund when I cancel an add-on?
Usually you keep access until the end of the period you paid for, and you are not refunded for the rest of that period. Rules differ: Roku and YouTube TV say no partial refunds, while YouTube Primetime Channels lets you request a refund. If you were charged for something you didn’t agree to, ask the platform and see our dispute guide.
